“Building a Second Brain is a methodology for saving and systematically reminding us of the ideas, inspirations, insights, and connections we’ve gained through our experience. If you haven’t read Building a Second Brain by Tiago Forte, I highly recommend it. All in all, OneNote has handwriting features almost as good as Goodnotes and is far more flexible and cross-platform. There are times when I want to write something down from my computer, and Goodnotes just isn’t capable of that. Your notes aren’t editable outside the Goodnotes app. I know that you can have Goodnotes sync to OneDrive, but that’s just a pdf backup. If you don’t allow Goodnotes to sync through iCloud, your notes aren’t accessible through the Goodnotes MacBook app. A small one-time payment to download Goodnotes isn’t an issue for me, but I refuse to pay a subscription. Goodnotes works through iCloud, and for it to be usable you need to pay a subscription fee to apple to increase your iCloud storage. The Goodnotes app on MacBook is just generally a nightmare, and there’s no Goodnotes web app. Goodnotes is an iPad app through and through, and just isn’t meant for typing notes. Firstly, OneNote is excellent for taking text-based notes and generally is very natural to use on a computer. The experience of taking handwritten notes on Goodnotes seems better than what OneNote has to offer, and the fact that Goodnotes puts your notes on individual pages means that you can export your notes as a pdf (something that OneNote just can’t do, more on this in part 3). I own Goodnotes, and I can confidently say that it’s an excellent app. For iPads specifically, the most popular note-taking app seems to be Goodnotes. More on this later.Ī lot of college students, myself included, take notes on a tablet like an iPad for classes. OneNote is completely free, which already beats the vast majority of high-quality note-taking apps out there. I would just hate to see you lose some people because they get the Windows and think that's all there is.This Reddit post comes to you in three parts:īut first, the obvious. Windows is totally different than IOS is structure so I get it. I will definitely hang in there because I know what it is capable of, unfortunately, it just isn't there yet but I know it will get there. This makes the Windows version worthless to me at this time. In the beta version I could key text into the Windows version, I find that is missing all together or I haven't been able to locate it. I use the hyperlinks constantly in the IOS version and they are not available at this time in the Windows. I was a participant in the beta version of the Windows and was extremely surprised whrn they said they were releaing it as is. I have tried several and a couple come close but still just don'e meet up for my needs. I have used the IOS version in our business and personal lives for several years and absolutely couldn't be without it. I know this is a work in progress, I know this has been requested for quite a while, My personal opinion is that it was released too soon.
